In these pandemic times, world is eagerly waiting for COVID-19 vaccine. But, do you know how a vaccine works? Come let's find it together!
>>School days
Before going in to the main part let us go back to our school days for a while!
Do you remember the practice tests conducted by our school management months before final examinations? The question paper will be in the same pattern as it would be in real examination. These tests helps a student to get habituated to the exam pattern and he/she would be ready for the Board examination with all techniques which he/she learned through practice tests. A student who takes more practice tests will have better chance of success when compared to the student who didn't take any practice test.
Remember this and let us enter in to a scientific discussion
>>Basic info
When a foreign microbes enter into our body, our immune system triggers a series of responses in order to identify, fight and remove them from our body. The signs of this immune responses are coughing, sneezing, inflammation, fever etc. Special cells called B-cells and T-cells are recruited to fight microbes and they also record information about them creating the memory of what the invaders look like and how best to fight against them. But if a body is too weak or young to fight back when it's invaded, it might face very serious risks leading to death in some cases.
Vaccine offer a solution to this problem. They help you develop immunity without getting sick first.
>>what is a vaccine?
A Vaccine is a subsstance that helps to protect us from certain diseases.
Vaccines are made from the same germs(bacteria, virus, or other micro organism ) or parts of them that cause disease. For example, Polio vaccine is made from polio virus. But the germs in vaccines are either killed or weakened so they won't make you sick.
Vaccines containing these weakened or killed germs are introduced to your body, usually by injection. Our immune system reacts to the vaccine in a similar way that it would do if it were being invaded by the disease by making antibodies. The antibodies destroy the vaccine germs just as they would do with the disease germs like a training exercise. Then they stay in your body, giving you immunity. If you ever exposed to the real disease, the antibodies are there to protect you.
>>Conclusion
Just like the way how we get ready to the real exam through practice tests, our body also gets ready to fight against virus or any other foreign particle through a vaccine. Let us hope that COVID-19 vaccine complete it's trails soon.
